I loved this fantasy romance about a grumpy witch who reluctantly loves a group of helpers assigned to him while simultaneously falling in love with a woman who is literally out of his league. Besides witches, this story also includes kings, wizards, lords and ladies, pending war and so much yearning. B+

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez
This is listed as a romantic comedy and while it starts off absolutely hilarious, it slowly begins to become a much more profound, heart-wrenching story. Trigger warning for fertility issues and death. Full disclosure that I'd been following this author on TikTok for a while now and this is the first book of hers that I've ever read. I loved it so, so much and will be back for book 2 when I go on vacation in June. (I save up anticipated reads for my vacations. It's my thing.) A

Good Spirits by BK Borison
This was adorable. Just Christmas-y and feel good and adorable. I almost wish that I'd saved it for the holiday season because you can't help but walk away from this romance with a lot of wistful sighing. A super cute story about the ghost of Christmas past falling in love with his latest assignment. B+

This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews
I love everything written by this author (husband/wife writing team), and this book did not disappoint. It's a little bit of a heavy read due to the world-building, but the story itself is unputdownable. The romance is a slow build and the first kiss made me happy sigh. I literally had to put down my Kindle to gather my emotions when it happened. That's your sign. B

Lovelight Farms by BK Borison
Friends to lovers romance is a new trope for me, but this book did not disappoint. Great romance although I struggled at times with the speed with which they fell in love after being friends for so long. You have to admire people who keep up a best friends pretense for nine years while suppressing their feelings. I guess? B-

Firelight by Kristen Callihan
What the actual f#ck? Someone mentioned loving this book on Bluesky and I'll have to find the post so I can remember who said it and never take their word for a good book again. I'm sure this is someone's yum, but not mine. It's a fantasy/paranormal-ish book about a woman with powers and a man who isn't a man and what? I'm still confused. (And I just didn't like either of them.) C-

Judge Stone by James Patterson/Viola Davis [Not a Romance]
The problem with mostly reading romance and then picking up one that's not is the concern that the book won't have a HEA. You're safe with this one! This book jumps right into the pro-life/pro-choice debate in a small town in Alabama. The topic is infuriating and current and I did a lot of talking to the air, letting my feelings be known to the universe. It's a Patterson, so a fast, easy read. I enjoyed it greatly. B+
