For every good review I receive, it seems the very next day I receive a not-so-good one for the very same book. I’m not at all confused by this because face it, reviews are subjective. What works for one person doesn’t work for another. I had one reviewer say a secondary character was a caricature and unrealistic, whereas another reviewer for the same book said she wished the same secondary character had been given more of a spot light. I’ve had reviewers applaud an action-packed story while other reviewers bemoan the fact that so much happened in such a short story. Reviewers read my erotica and call it “hot”; other reviewers read my erotic romance and call the sex “ok”.

You know what I’ve decided? You either love my stories or you hate them. Not much seems to go on in the land of in between.

C’est la vie.

Frakking hell

I wrote a pirate yesterday to ask why he felt the need to offer my book for free to the public. I really was curious. His answer was asinine at best.

Tell me if you can spot the many, many, MANY flaws in his logic:

“What illegal books, they have been paid for, its kind of like a library you go get your book read it return it they buy it once like me or maybe they buy two copies, do you really expect some kind of resale fee or something on books I have purchased, thats not going to happen and why should it, ford doesn’t get a cut on a second hand car.. and the library doesn’t charge for it service, but it does pay its staff.

I don’t re-sell any novels at all, my purchases are made available to others for FREE download.

Most downloads come from countries that have purchase restrictions on them, people in East Asia and South America are forbidden to buy new novels from the USA Many novels aren’t even available in Europe… Publishers are the demons of the book world not the people that buy the books. or the people that would buy if given the opportunity.

I only receive payments for my time maintaining the Blog and to PURCHASE new novels, so that you can earn your royalties and eat.”

What. The. Fuck?

I’ll be sending him a bill for each and every download from his site…so that I can, as he puts it, earn my royalties and eat.

Battle of the Wolves

One evening, an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. Dogging

Have you heard of it? I didn’t know a damned thing until I went to dictionary.com to look up this word to make certain I was using it correctly in my current manuscript. To me, it’s a slang term meaning “to pursue relentlessly”. To Google, however, it’s a new craze.

According to this article at Wired.com, dogging is a new British fad where “crowds big and small watch exhibitionist couples who’ve met on the Net have sex in cars, and sometimes join in”. Here’s another fabulous quote from the article: “Dogging is so prevalent, 60 percent of U.K. country parks are affected by it…”

WTF.

I mean, seriously. I’m all about getting your exhibitionist groove on, but wow. Although…

I wonder how Mr. Carney feels about the idea. Heh.
